Tasty Treats

I don't know anything about the party advertised on this poster, but I'll be damned if it isn't the best poster I've ever seen.

I would like to give everyone a New Year's gift, just in time for any potential New Year's dance parties happening in about, oh, 48 hours, give or take. Could these songs be the very definition of a dancefloor-filler, if that word even exists? Is there any circumstance in which I could hear this song and not want to cut rug for hours on end? When, if ever, will I stop asking rhetorical questions?

Seriously though these songs are great.

Remember the Spoons

Many folks will probably know the Spoons best for their single "Nova Heart", which, while nonetheless quintessentially defining their unique, vintage indie synth-pop sound, doesn't nearly do justice to what is surely the best tune I've heard in the past few weeks -

Smiling in Winter throws you onto a dancefloor with what must surely be the only just-uptempo-enough swung drum machine track that could ever keep up with a bass groove this dancey.

Hudson Mohawke

So over on this west coast we've got a little shop called Ditch Records. A few months ago I found an EP in their New Releases bin by this relatively unknown Scot on Warp records: Hudson Mohawke.

Polyfolk Dance EP

Hudson Mohawke - Monde

The track I posted from "The Polyfolk Dance EP" takes all the good of Boards of Canada and adds some pop and soul. "Polyfolk Dance" was followed by a full length released in October called "Butter".
